Weekly Prompt #1

This is my first time to participate in New Books for New Blogger's Weekly Prompt. This week's question is:
Week #007: History, Present, or Future?
What is your preferred setting for books? What about that setting appeals to you most? What are your favorite books with this setting?
Can I choose... all of the above? I have always liked present setting in books. Especially if these are contemporary. No matter how annoying the characters in contemps could be, they all have that calming effect on me. But I love futuristic dystopias and historical steampunk too! Historical steampunk entices me whereas futuristic dystopias awe me.

My favorite Contemps/Historical Steampunk/Futuristic Dystopia:

  1. Oh, I hadn't heard of this feature before! But I agree with all of your thoughts on contemps, steampunk, and dytopians. Though I'd have to say my absolute favorite genre is high fantasy (like Mistwood by Leah Cypess, Graceling/Fire by Kristin Cashore, etc.). :)

  3. Ahhh, The Sky is Everywhere. I just finished that last night and thought it was GREAT. I've never actually read a steampunk novel and honestly don't even have a firm grasp on wtf it means, haha!

@Jen (Makeshift Bookmark): Steampunk is good! It's like historical sci-fi. :)

  5. Interesting answer. I've never heard anyone express that take on contemporary fiction. I'm not a big fan of it but maybe I should try more!
